Leo lived in a busy city and carried a dream in his heart since childhood—to become a hairstylist.
His love for hairstyling began at home. His older sister enjoyed trying different hairstyles on him and proudly brought him to their mother to show how adorable he looked with each style. Leo enjoyed the attention, but what he loved even more was watching how hair could completely change a person’s appearance.
In return, he decorated his sister’s hair with colorful hairpins. His hands were clumsy at first.
Sometimes she patiently sat while he worked. Other times she laughed and warned him,
“Be careful, bro! Don’t pull my hair!”
Leo would apologize and try again.
As he grew into a teenager, his interest became more serious. He watched video tutorials on social media and practiced carefully on his sister’s hair whenever she allowed him to. He learned how to braid, straighten, trim bangs, and create stylish looks.
Whenever Leo worried about making mistakes, his sister encouraged him.
“It’s okay,” she would say warmly. “That’s how people learn.”
Her support gave him courage.
Soon she became proud of his talent and talked about him at college. During her second month there, her friends became curious.
“Introduce us to your brother!” they begged.
“We want him to style our hair too!”
One weekend, Leo’s sister brought several friends home.
At first, Leo felt nervous. Seeing so many people waiting for him made his stomach twist. He worried that his hair products—gel, serum, conditioner, and spray—would run out before he finished.
One of the girls noticed his worried expression.
“Don’t worry,” she said kindly. “Just give us a list of what you need and tell us your price. We’ll buy the products ourselves.”
Leo sighed with relief.
The girls kept their promise. They bought everything and paid him fairly. That day, Leo felt something new growing inside him—confidence.
He carefully styled each girl’s hair. Some wanted curls, some wanted sleek straight hair, and others wanted trendy layered styles they had seen online. When he finished, they rushed to the mirror and gasped with excitement.
Their happiness made Leo smile.
Before leaving, they thanked him again and promised to tell others.
By the age of twenty, Leo had become much more skilled. He first practiced on friends and relatives and later welcomed neighbors as customers. Most people appreciated his work and praised his talent, though a few became jealous.
Soon, Leo’s customers started receiving compliments wherever they went.
“Where did you get your hair done?” people asked.
“Which salon did you visit?”
His customers proudly mentioned Leo’s name.
Encouraged by their support, Leo emailed relatives, neighbors, and school and college friends to ask for help opening his own salon. He promised that once he became successful, he would repay everyone.
Many people offered money, but Leo made an unusual decision.
He accepted help only from middle-class supporters.
He refused money from poor families because he worried he might fail and struggle to repay them on time. He also refused large donations from wealthy people. Leo believed that too much money too quickly could tempt a person into making careless financial decisions.
After counting the contributions, he discovered he had collected 100 grand.
With gratitude and determination, Leo opened his salon.
What had started as styling his sister’s hair slowly became his life’s passion. Years passed, and Leo became a respected hairstylist known for his patience and creativity.
Eventually, he married one of his favorite customers, and together they had a little boy.
Leo loved teaching his son. He introduced him not only to hairstyling but also to honesty, kindness, and business values so he could grow into a self-sufficient person one day.
Because Leo’s wife worked as an elementary school teacher and his parents lived in another city, he often brought his son to the salon.
The boy became a familiar face there.
Most days the shop buzzed with conversation and laughter. Customers enjoyed Leo’s gentle personality and skilled hands. But among them were many children and women troubled by a stubborn problem—lice.
They came hoping Leo could help.
At first, Leo felt confident.
He tried herbal oils, expensive medicines, special shampoos, and even secret homemade remedies shared by elders. But no matter what he used, the lice always returned.
The problem troubled him deeply.
Some customers grew disappointed and stopped visiting. A few quietly chose other salons. Leo worried about losing the trust he had worked so hard to build.
At night, he sat alone in the salon, wondering what to do.
He searched online for highly rated treatments, but most were expensive. Buying them felt risky because he could not guarantee they would work.
Feeling helpless, Leo visited a nearby temple and prayed for good health and success in business.
The priest listened carefully before speaking.
“Visit Korgo Mountain,” he advised. “It lies nearly one thousand miles from here. There stands an ancient golden temple where people pray to a powerful goddess.”
The priest smiled gently.
“Whether the goddess grants wishes or not, remember this—sometimes answers appear in unexpected places. Keep your eyes open.”
Those words stayed in Leo’s heart.
That evening he told his wife and son,
“Tomorrow morning we are going to the golden temple. Get ready.”
The next morning, they boarded a train and began their journey.
The temple stood high above the mountain and required climbing five hundred steps. By the time they reached three hundred steps, Leo’s wife and son felt exhausted.
Luckily, wide resting areas appeared every hundred steps where villagers sold snacks and water.
The family sat beneath a tree to rest.
That was when Leo noticed something unusual.
A monkey sat nearby, carefully picking lice from another monkey’s fur and eating them. Leo watched in silence.
The priest’s words echoed in his mind.
Sometimes answers appear in unexpected places.
Leo stared.
His eyes widened.
Then an idea flashed into his mind.
“That’s it,” he whispered. “I’ve found the answer.”
He quickly bought bananas from a nearby fruit seller and handed some to his son.
“Pretend you have lice,” Leo said. “Scratch your head and act like you found some.”
His son happily played along, scratching his hair and making funny faces.
Curious and tempted by the bananas, the monkey climbed closer. It searched through the boy’s hair and looked pleased.
To humans, lice were annoying insects.
To monkeys, they were food.
Leo’s idea grew stronger.
Patiently, he fed the monkey bananas and earned its trust. Day after day during their visit, the monkey grew comfortable around the family. Leo imagined how helpful such a clever helper could be back at his salon.
Soon his imagination ran wild.
In his mind, he saw himself bringing the monkey home.
From that day onward, the monkey became his unusual helper. It sat beside him in the salon, searching customers’ hair for lice while receiving bananas as payment.
People were amazed.
Some laughed at the sight.
Others clapped and cheered.
Soon, stories spread across the city about “The Monkey Barber.”
Leo’s salon became famous. Even other hairstylists visited to learn from him—not only about hair styling but also about creativity and problem-solving.
Success followed quickly.
Leo earned enough money to buy land and plant fruit trees especially for his furry companion. Watching the monkey leap between branches filled him with joy, and he cared for it deeply because, in his heart, he believed gratitude should never be forgotten.
One peaceful evening, after closing the salon, Leo sat beneath the fruit trees beside his furry friend. The monkey happily munched on bananas while Leo smiled with pride.
Suddenly—
“Leo! Wake up!”
A voice echoed through the air.
Leo opened his eyes and blinked in confusion. There was no salon, no fruit trees, and no monkey. Instead, he found himself lying in his bed.
His sister stood beside him, holding a comb and laughing.
“You’ve been sleeping all afternoon!” she said.
Leo rubbed his eyes and looked around his small room. Then he touched his own messy hair.
“What?” he muttered.
“Am I still a kid?”
Slowly, memories of the dream returned—the busy salon, the mountain temple, the clever monkey, and the customers who praised him.
Leo laughed softly.
The adventure had only been a dream, but one thought remained in his heart.
A clever idea can solve even the toughest problems.
He looked at his sister’s comb and smiled.
“Maybe,” Leo said, “I should start learning hairstyling for real.”
His sister raised an eyebrow.
“You mean on my hair again?”
Leo grinned and reached for the comb.
His sister laughed and sat beside him. That afternoon, Leo picked up the comb once more, unaware that the dream in his heart might someday become reality.
Moral:
A clever idea can solve even the toughest problems.
